Bargains & Loss Leaders in August

August 1, 2013 10:47 am By Lori Post contains sponsored/affiliate links and I get commissions for purchases made from links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

This month, discounts are mostly what you would expect: office supplies, dorm essentials and outdoor clearance items. We will also start to see some deals on denim and a few rock-bottom clearance sales on summer apparel.

  1. August is another big month for bargains on printer paper, folders, pens, pencils and just about every office supply you can think of. With sale prices so low, think about purchasing enough for Christmas and birthday gifts, mid-school year replacements and donation items.
  2. With students heading back to college soon, you’ll find some of the best discounts on organizational items such as shelving, closet organizers, bins, under-bed storage and desktop organization. You’ll also see some of the lowest prices on laptops and MP3 players, rivaling black friday deals.
  3. Sales of athletic apparel begin to dwindle as summer nears its end, and retailers respond with huge discounts and clearance events.  Keep your eyes peeled for some deals on athletic clothing, shoes and equipment the likes of which will not be seen again until January.
  4. Look for lawn mowers, swimming pools, landscape supplies, swing sets, grills and patio furniture to be deeply discounted this month. You’ll also find a few remnants of swimsuits and summer apparel on clearance.

Here are the best deals by category. Be on the lookout for corresponding coupons to sweeten your savings:
