WalMart is my First Stop on Black Friday

by Lori on November 21, 2008 · 6 comments

I finally got a sneak peek at their Black Friday ad HERE. My WalMart is open 24 hours, so I’ll be standing in the toy aisle at 5am!

Please explain Wal-Mart early bird specials to me. I’ve never done it before. Mine is open 24 hrs. too, but I’m not sure if they are open 24 hrs on Thanksgiving. If they are, could I go there in the wee hours of the morning and put all I want in my cart, and wait till a certain time to check out? How does that work? Thanks!

Hopefully someone else has some good advice. I’ve gone to Meijer at the start of the Black Friday sales (also open 24 hours), but never Wal Mart. I am assuming my WalMart experience will be similar. Here’s how it worked at Meijer: the store is still open 24 hours – many of the special deals are stocked, but shrink-wrapped together until the start of the sale. Needless to say, the shrink wrap doesn’t stop some people! When I arrived at Meijer about 30 minutes prior to the sale, ALL of the bicycles were already gone. People had removed the shrink wrap and were walking around the store with them. All but one of the check out aisles were temporarily closed for 30 minutes before the sale and people began lining up with the sale items they had already pulled from the shelves, waiting for the lines to reopen. As soon as the clock hit 6am at Meijer, the cashiers began ringing in the sales. I spoke to one associate who said people had been at the store since midnight with those bikes. I think breaking into shrink wrap and wandering sleeplessly around a supermarket for 6 hours might just put me on santa’s naughty list – I’m not that hardcore!
Anyway, not all items are shrink wrapped, so I’ll be heading over about 30 minutes early to see what’s left…
If anyone has done the early bird sale at a 24 hour WalMart, I’d love to hear about it too!

My Walmart is open 24 hours, but I’m pretty sure that they are closed on Thanksgiving, or at rather, they close around midnight on Thansgiving to prepare for the sales. I think you’ll have to wait outside.

Correct me if I’m wrong, and you’ve done this before though. :)

My Wal-Mart has a sign on the door saying it’s open 24hrs on Thanksgiving. Guess I’ll be heading over there at about 4am to see what I can get. But on their website, it says some items are not available on-line until Friday morning. I wonder if they will have the same BF prices on-line. If so, I’ll be BF shopping in my PJs here at my computer!! ;)

WalMart does NOT close at all during the year except for two things: Christmas eve early(6pm) and Christmas day. The other reason would be something drastic like a shooting or weather. I used to work at one. What we did was scattered the items around the store (not in the obvious places), put the pallets down, still shrink-wrapped. Then at 5am we would unwrap them. Which resulted in several injuries from crazy Black Friday shoppers who wouldn’t give the associate two seconds to get out of the way… Oh well. Hope this helps ladies. I used to work Black Fridays and now this is the first year that I am even thinking about going anywhere. For sure Wags… Maybe Target but I would have to drive to one… Oh well. Keep in mind also that if you have a store within 5-10 miles of the Wal-Mart that you are at they price-match items that are exactly the same as in other stores’ adds. Hope ya’ll have fun shopping. :)
