Shine in 2009 – Cutting Household Expenses

February 9, 2009 · 1 comment

I enjoy the challenge of finding ways to cut our household bills while not affecting our quality of life. For me, it feels like I’ve beaten the system when I can do that. This week, we’ll be looking at ways to lower bills without sacrificing anything.

Phone and Cable
HERE is a great article by the Wall Street Journal. It shows you how various companies have inplemented policies to keep customers in this difficult economy by lowering your monthly payment if you just call and ask. No decrease in services or features, just lower bills! Howdya like that!

Electric
I’ve saved on my electric bill by teaching my kids to shut off lights when they leave the room. Okay, so this one is still a work-in-progress. But this is an easy way to save a buck without giving up anything. You can also unplug appliances when they are not in use. Did you know that when something is plugged into the wall it is still sucking up electricity, even if it’s not on? Yes, it’s a hassle, but until the economy perks up, I’m willing to be hassled!

If you have some clever ways to save on household expenses, I’d love to hear them!
