I had the opportunity to try this site with my three-year-old and I must say that I am thoroughly impressed. I expected a site with such a large quantity of learning materials to be lacking in quality or efficiency somewhere. But that is not the case at all! The site runs smoothly through beautifully illustrated lessons with enjoyable narration and songs. My favorite part of the site is the extensive printables available that have helped my son learn to recognize and write his letters.

The folks over at Baby Einstein have released a new interactive program that uses DVD, music and print in one kit: The Baby Einstein Discovery Kit.

Next, I’d like to tell you how I earn money blogging. First, I’ll share the basics.
1) If you don’t have a blog, you can set one up free at blogger.com or wordpress.com.
2) Write about what you love. Everyone is an expert on something. Tap into your own experiences and knowledge to appeal to your audience.
3) Generate traffic. Here are the best ways to generate traffic through your blog:
-Be consistent, post every day
-Contribute to other blogs – look around the blogosphere for guest post opportunities, or open requests for help. The more you’re out there, the easier it’ll be for readers to find you.
-Comment on your favorite blogs
-Join Twitter – Twitter is a social network that a lot of blog owners participate in. It’s a great way to make friends with other bloggers and find new ideas and opportunities. Again, be consistent in your twittering!
-Social Media – consider joining Facebook, CafeMom and other social sites to help promote your blog.
-Blog Carnivals-stop over HERE for a huge list of carnivals. Carnivals are organized posts that happen on a regular basis (usually the same day of the week) and have several blogs participating. Blogs are able to place a link to their carnival post on the main page, generating lots of new traffic. To see how it works, visit my favorite carnival: Works for Me Wednesday.
-Giveaways- visit my giveaways posts to see how they work. There are many businesses willing to sponsor a giveaway (giving you the prize free) in exchange for the advertising they’ll get for being featured on your blog. If I find a company that I think is a good fit for my readers, I send them an email and share a little about my blog, the target audience, the traffic flow, etc. Then I tell them I’d like to feature them on my blog by having them sponsor a giveaway. I give them the specifics: how long the giveaway runs, how readers will enter, how I choose a winner, etc. If they’re interested, they get back with me and we go from there. If you decide to pursue this option, be sure to advertise your giveaway with a link on these sites: Money Saving Mom – Every Tuesday she has a Giveaway Galore post. 4) Join Affiliate Programs – here’s where the moo-lah comes in. Remember, only advertise products that appeal to your readers. If your blog is about travel, then all your ads should be relevant to travel. If it’s about sports, then make sure the ads would be relevant to other sports minded people. Be as informed about the companies as possible. Join, purchase or participate so you can share firsthand experiences with your readers. This is much more effective than placing banner ads on your sidebar. Here are a few of my favorite affiliate programs: Logical Media Panthera – $150 sign up bonus Commission Junction shareasale.com LinkShare Market Leverage Each program has it’s own threshold. Threshold is a specified dollar amount you must reach in order to be issued a check. If the threshold is $50 and you only earn $30, they’ll carry that commission over to the next month until you’ve earned the required $50.
If there is a particular company that you feel would be a great fit for your blog, do a Google search. For example, search for “Scuba Sam affiliate program”.
Here’s a helpful site: ABestWeb.com – it’s a forum site all about affiliate programs. You’ll be able to ask questions of other site owners and read what they have to say about each affiliate company.
The biggest thing is to get in there and get your hands dirty. Learn by doing. Trial and error will be your best teacher. Experiment with your blog and see what works and what doesn’t.
