I love Pottery Barn lanterns.
…and Ballard Designs.
Which is why I was so geeked to find this little number at my local thrift store.
Ain’t she pretty?
Love the cobwebs. Very rustic.
After seeing Pretty Handy Girl redo a similar lantern I was inspired to give this a try myself!
So I scarfed this baby up for a whopping $.75…
…then ran over to Walmart and bought a can of Krylon Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint.
After a thorough cleaning, I gave it a couple of good coats.
What do you think?
I’m pretty happy with the result. My total cost including spray paint was less than $5! Compare with $40-$50 for the Pottery Barn or Ballard versions, we’re talking 90% savings. My kind of deal!
It’s been awhile since I’ve been motivated to do some serious thrifting. But after finding this treasure, I think they’ll be seeing a lot of me!

LOVE it!!
I love it. Our local family dollar has some smaller ones like 3 inches tall at the most, that are 2 bucks. They are cute and are springy colored, but 2 bucks a piece was a bit much to me. I was thinking of spray painting them if I used them for a Spring baby shower.
That would be cute!
Beautiful! I love your lantern! I'll be sharing it on twitter and Facebook later

Oh my, who buys Pottery Barn stuff anyway?!! way out of my budget, but I'm guessing your home looks like it came out of one of their catalogs! Way To Go!!
Very Nice!! I refuse to pay full price for decorations any more!! It has to be something I really really like before I will pay the full price!
I love it! I think yours looks better than the Pottery Barn version
Don't you just love what a little paint will do for things? I've been on a roll with making over thrift store things — for my Paris bathroom makeover!

That’s amazing! I have a hard time justifying the outrageous prices at PB and Ballard these days – especially when you end up with a gem like this. It looks awesome!
