With summer coming up, it’s time to think barbecues and picnics. Here’s my favorite tried-and-true recipe for the ultimate coney sauce. You can make it ahead, and store it in meal size containers in the freezer for up to three months.

Ingredients
- 2 lbs. ground beef, cooked and drained
- 2 medium onions, diced
- 16 oz. tomato sauce
- 2 c. water
- ¼ c. barbecue sauce
- ¼ c. prepared mustard
- 1 beef bullion cube
- 2 Tbs. fresh parsley, minced
- 2 Tbs. dried onion flakes
- 2 Tbs. chili powder
- 1 Tbs. sugar
- 1 tsp hot pepper sauce (I use Frank’s)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat, cover and simmer on low for 1-2 hours.
- Serve over hot dogs or allow to cool and store in meal size containers in the freezer for up to 3 months.
