Homemade Ranch Dressing

March 29, 2012 · 7 comments

Most of my recipes are quick and easy. But there are a few things that are worth a little extra effort.

Like homemade ranch dressing.

If you’ve never tried the homemade version, then you will flip for this. Even if you’re not a huge ranch fan. Promise.

Homemade Ranch Dressing
Recipe type: side

Ingredients
  • ¾ c. sour cream
  • ¾ c. mayonnaise
  • ¾ c. buttermilk
  • 1 Tbs. olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbs. fresh chives, diced
  • 1 Tbs. fresh parsley, diced
  • ½ tsp. kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp. fresh ground black pepper

Instructions
  1. Blend all ingredients in a blender until thoroughly combined. Add extra buttermilk for a thinner dressing (will thicken slightly in the refrigerator). Refrigerate in air tight container for 1-2 weeks.

.
Look at this beautifulness.

I’m thinking about framing this picture and mounting it above my mantle. Would that be wrong?

This is the best ranch I have ever had. I did not have sour cream so I used Greek yogurt, this made it even more amazing. Thank you

In lieu of buttermilk, can you use the milk added to vinegar trick? I’ve used it in baking, but was not sure how it would alter the flavor.

I just stumbled upon your meal planning book and website. The book looks amazing, I can’t wait to read it!

Hi Liz – I confess I have never tried the substitution. If you decide to, I’d love to know how it turns out!
