Holiday Decorating on a Dime

September 20, 2008 · 3 comments

During the holidays, I always try to set aside a little extra to purchase decorations at the end of the season. I have established a great collection of decor items, all at at least 75% off. Here are a few pics from around my home:

The mantle is decorated with a swag from Hobby Lobby, purchased on clearance in December 2007 for 80% off: $4. Two of the candles were on clearance at Target in December for 75% off. The other smaller candle was a recent purchase from Walgreens: free after rebate. The small metal Jack O Lantern is from JoAnns Fabrics. It was a whopping $.90!

Pumpkin cookie jar from HOBBY LOBBY – 80% off in December. I paid $5.

This wreath was a great find at the local discount Card & Party shop. Purchased in December for 90% off. I paid $3.

More great stuff from Hobby Lobby! These were also 80% off and cost $1.50-$3 each.

The centerpiece was another Hobby Lobby find for $5. The pumpkin mat was found at Kohls on clearance in December for $2.50.

Holiday decor isn’t the only thing you can save big bucks on. I’ve found great deals on frames and wall art, especially in January. This wall in our living room was done with items on sale at Hobby Lobby. We have silly pictures of the kids nicely framed alongside a black metal shelf. The kids call this our “family wall”. The entire wall cost between $45-$50.

My favorite places to buy after-holiday clearance items:
Hobby Lobby
JoAnns Fabric & Crafts
Target
TJ Maxx
Michaels
Kohls
or any of the larger Department Stores

Ordinarily, you can find holiday items for at least 60% off the day after. If you wait until the following week, the prices drop even lower. Fall decor has been the easiest for me to find because after Thanksgiving, most people focus their spending on Christmas decor and gifts, so this stuff doesn’t go too quickly!

Hi, this is Brandy from Savin’ Some. Thanks for stopping by, I wanted to let you know about the Tot Trade consignment sale. It is held in a building that is similar to a large warehouse. They use the Shriners building here. You can go to this link (http://www.tottrade.net/in_a_box.html) and find out more about how to start one in your area. It really is a great sale, especially with three children. It helps our family out so much.

Those decorations look fantastic! I am a clearance fanatic. Most of my fall stuff I got on clearance too.
