Family Fun Friday

March 27, 2009 · 4 comments

I have a confession – one thing that has gone by the wayside with the stress of this economy has been our family fun days. Sure, I know there are plenty of things to do for free and I really have no excuse. But the truth is, I haven’t been diligent about finding them. It’s easy to buy a ticket to the movie theatre – which is what I use to do. It requires a bit more creativity to figure out how to have fun with a large family for $10 or less.

Well no more excuses! I’ve decided to implement a new feature on Moms by Heart called Family Fun Friday. Each Friday, I’ll be coming up with a scenario for an entire afternoon or evening of family fun for $10 or less that you can use sometime over the weekend. If you have a blog, I’d like your help. To participate, you must:

~Put together a scenario for a fun afternoon or evening that will cost $10 or less. Don’t be afraid to use coupons, discounts, special events around town, freebies, recipes or games at home. Anything goes, as long as it can include the whole family.

This weekend, here’s what we’ll be doing:

INSIDE CAMP OUT
1) Our fun begins with dinner, where we will be making our own pizzas. For the sake of convenience, I’m using a premade pizza crust mix that has already been made and spread onto the pans for each child. Each of us will have our own personal size pizza and a variety of toppings to choose from. Total cost: about $5.

2) We’ll be renting a video from Redbox for $1 or using one of these free codes:
SHPNSVE2
REDBOX – 1st time customers only
BREAKROOM
DVDONME
DVDATWAG – Walgreens locations only

3) We have our sleeping bags and an inflatable matress, and a couple comfy couches. We’ll be serving microwave popcorn and S’More Pops as a special CAMP OUT treat while watching our family friendly movie. Treats: $3-$4!
Don’t forget the camera!

Another way you can also save on traditional smore is by buying the fudge stripe cookies and sandwiching your marshmellow inbetween two.

For inexpensive family fun try “Unplugged Play: No Batteries. No Plugs. Pure Fun” by Bobbi conner. It has 710 games and acitivities for ages 12 months to 10 years. We have what we call Family Home Evening on Monday nights, and this book has been a great resource for me. Our kids LOVE our FHE nights!

Thanks for the S’More Pops recipe. Yummo!

I came through here by way of a link and have been awhile.

Good stuff! I copied some of the RedBox codes, and will be back to check on Family Fun Friday next week, if I remember. ;)
