FREE Family Activities For This Weekend

7 day no spending

Next week, we are embarking on another 7 Day No Spending Challenge. But just because we won’t be spending money, doesn’t mean we can’t have fun!  Here are a few free activities you may be able to find in your neck of the woods.

Local Activities:

  • Free factory tours in your area.
  • Home Depot DIY Organic Gardening workshop
  • Lakeshore Learning – free craft project for kids
  • William Sonoma – free Jr Chef Class: DIY Homemade Drinks
  • Check out your local library reading club.
  • Contact your local Parks & Recreation department, Community Center, Visitors Center or the local newspaper website for a list of free activities. Don’t forget to check with any nature centers, sports centers, lakes or community parks.
  • Visit a national park for free this weekend (4/19-4/20).
  • Bowl for free at Bowling Alleys across the country.
  • AMF Bowling Club gives you $20 off your next visit or free bowling for kids all summer.

Reading Clubs:
These are summer programs that have not started yet, but it would be fun to sign up and get started planning this week!

  • Free Campgrounds – find out where you can camp for free (or cheap!).
  • Harvest Hosts – farmers and wineries offer RVers free overnight stays.

Free National Park Admission This Weekend

nation parks

This weekend (4/18-4/19), visit a nearby National Park for free as part of their Fee-Free Weekend Program. Details HERE.

The National Parks have been the hands-down favorite part of our roadschooling trip. The Jr Ranger Program, available at most locations, is a free educational program that includes a badge and/or patch for kids who complete it. It’s meant for the kids, but I learn a lot every time!

The park rangers are always very helpful and enthusiastic with the kids.

There is even a Jr Ranger oath at the end! As you can see from the top pic, we are on our way to having quite a collection of badges.

If you are a frequent traveler, I recommend purchasing the National Park Pass for $80/year. It allows you free admission to over 2,000 federal recreation sites. That’s what we have, and it has been one of the best investments of the entire trip!
