With just a few weeks left of school, my attention is turning to our home summer program. This year is especially important to us, as we have one child entering middle school and my youngest (autistic) entering kindergarten. With all the kids now officially “school-age”, this will be the first time I have had an empty house in 18 years. So I plan to squeeze all the fun and memories I can out of this last few months.
To that end, I headed out for my bimonthly trip to my local Dollar Tree to look for fun activities and supplies for our summer staycation!
Side note: can you believe I found the good pens for a buck? I’m talking Bic Triumph Gel Pens and Mark-It Permanent Markers!
A staycation essential at my house is a fully stocked rewards basket. Having prizes encourages the kids to read or work on summer goals so they can earn one. Obviously I’ll be needing to beef up my prize stash, but this is a good start.
We love a good picnic, and the Dollar Tree had a nice selection of picnic supplies for a buck.
They are also fully stocked with graduation and 4th of July decorations. Yes, I have one graduating this year too. Lord help me.
