Easy DIY Valentine’s Day Dishtowels

January 25, 2012 · 2 comments

Last weekend JoAnn’s had a printable coupon good for 20% off our entire purchase – including sale items. I couldn’t resist stopping over to pick up supplies for this easy and affordable project I’ve been wanting to try! I followed the directions from Sew4Home, and ended up spending about 30 minutes making three of them – not too shabby! I’m pretty happy with how they have brightened up my kitchen!

You can usually find the plain white towels at Target or Walmart, but I got mine from TJ Maxx.  Expect to pay about $1 each.  Then I purchased the rick rack and 2″ strips of Valentine’s Day fabric (yes, they’ll cut it that small!) from JoAnn’s.  And that’s all it took!

If you’re interested, there is another JoAnn’s printable coupon that gives you 20% off this week.  Happy sewing!

The Creative Crate shows us how to make our own Monogrammed Pendant.

Simply Modern Mom has her own take on pendant making.  You could make several of these and give them along with one necklace! I think this is my favorite idea…

Flamingo Toes created a three strand bracelet and tied it together with coordinating fabric!

Tatertots and Jello repurposed old bangles with burlap!

My Latest Silhouette Project + Reader Discounts

May 23, 2011 · 0 comments

With four boys in the house, we have been looking forward to the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie for weeks now.  We’ve been practicing our Pirate lingo, wearing eye patches…the whole bit.

So I thought it would be fun to make our own pirate tees to wear to the movie.  Each of the kids thought of their own pirate sayings, and I used some Heat Transfer material that the folks at Silhouette sent over for me to try.

Using the free software included with the machine, you can choose from any font on your computer.  Just type in your words and feed the heat transfer material into the machine.  Your lettering is cut and ready to be ironed.  Easy and quick.

UPDATE: CODE IS EXPIRED.  Thanks to the folks at Silhouette, Moms by Heart readers can get a great deal through 5/25.  Use code: BYHEART to get a Silhouette Machine complete with free software PLUS a bonus three rolls of heat transfer material for $219 (from $329.99).  If you already own a Silhouette, this code will get you 25% off heat transfer material!

Everyone had a great time at the movie and received lots of compliments on their shirts!  The photo at the top of the post shows my two middle boys, my daughter’s friend and my daughter.  My teenager refused to get in the picture (I forced him to wear a shirt too).  ;)
