And I have the perfect use for these credits…

Many of you know I have a son going off to college in a few weeks. I’ve decided to make him a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book modeled after the road map made by Kirsten Dunst’s character in Elizabethtown (shown above). Letting go of a child brings with it so many fears, not the least of which is the fear of not being there when he needs somebody. So to solve this problem (in my own way), this book will contain “chapters” on potential future successes or challenges he may face.  Each chapter is just a page or two, and comes complete with encouraging words, photos, magazine clippings, motherly advice…AND each chapter has it’s own CD.  So he starts on page one with the table of contents and proceeds to the tabbed chapter that contains his adventure.  If he breaks up with a girlfriend? Forget You by Glee Cast & Another One Bites the Dust by Queen.  Sick of school? Enter James Brown.  And so on, and so on…

I know it’s dorky, but that’s kinda the point. I want to know that I can make him smile no matter what he’s going through – even if he doesn’t pick up the phone and call me.

If you think of any perfect songs for life challenges experienced by a college student, I am all ears :)

“By Your Side” by Tenth Avenue North and “Keep Your Head Up” by Andy Grammer. These aren’t specific to certain situations or challenges, but they’re both encouraging. Your book idea is AMAZING!
